Desert Duets: Bat Activity Web Page

Bats are mammals in the order chiroptera. This scientific word is a combination of the Greek word for "hand" and the word for "wing." A bat's wings look very much like a person's hands.

Draw your own hand spread out wide. Conduct research on bat wings and draw a bat's wing.

Fill out this chart to show how your hand and a bat's wing are the same and how they are different. Write the ways they are the same in the middle. Write the ways they are different in the column under the correct heading. Be sure you are comparing like characteristics. A sample has been done for you.

Person's Hand/Arm - Primate

You can also download a Venn diagram from the Web and use it instead of the chart.
